In preparation for the COP26 summit in Glasgow, Probha Aurora organized a webinar titled “Climate Change and COP26: Bangladesh Context and the Role of Youths” to amplify local voices. This event featured youth and young women from every division in Bangladesh and was graced by esteemed speakers, including Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, an economist and social thinker, and Dr. M.A. Sattar Mandal, Emeritus Professor of Agricultural Economics at BAU and advisor to Probha Aurora.
Key discussions focused on:
The event reinforced Probha Aurora’s commitment to youth-led climate advocacy, with plans for post-COP26 discussions to identify regional priorities for climate action.
In collaboration with CONsortium for Climate and Health (CONCH), Probha Aurora hosted a special webinar titled “Key Issues in Climate Change, Global Environmental Protection, and Health Considerations: A Special Discussion Ahead of COP27”. This event focused on identifying critical health issues linked to climate change for COP27.
Key Objectives:
The webinar highlighted Probha Aurora’s dedication to integrating health perspectives into climate dialogues and ensuring the voices of South Asian communities are heard on a global stage.
COP28 marked a significant milestone for Probha Aurora as our team attended the Conference of the Parties (COP) in person for the first time. This international gathering, held in Dubai, provided an invaluable platform to showcase Probha Aurora’s commitment to climate resilience and environmental health. Representing Bangladesh on a global stage, we presented our foundational programs, including our key Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) initiatives—Green Key, Eco-Schools, Eco-Campus, Early Years, and Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE)—to a broad audience of international stakeholders, partners, and experts.
As an active member of the Global Climate and Health Alliance, Probha Aurora contributed to the discourse on health-focused climate initiatives, engaging in impactful discussions that reinforced our mission to create sustainable, climate-adaptive solutions. Our focus on greening education extended beyond health to encompass sustainability practices that prepare communities for climate resilience and foster environmental stewardship from early childhood to higher education.
Key Achievements and Highlights:
A cornerstone of our COP28 experience was the establishment and strengthening of partnerships. Meeting international collaborators face-to-face, many for the first time, provided a unique opportunity to solidify connections that had previously been virtual. These in-person interactions laid the groundwork for strategic alliances that will be instrumental in advancing our environmental missions. Discussions centered on developing cooperative frameworks for the successful implementation of Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) programmes in Bangladesh, with an emphasis on expanding our Green Key and Eco-Schools initiatives.
COP28 recognized Probha Aurora’s extensive efforts and achievements in the field of environmental advocacy. Our presentations highlighted the impact of our work in Bangladesh, particularly through initiatives like the Green Key programme, which champions sustainable practices in tourism and hospitality. Probha Aurora’s accomplishments were acknowledged by various international entities, reinforcing our credibility and influence as a national operator for environmental education and advocacy.
Throughout COP28, Probha Aurora participated in many sessions dedicated to climate change education, sustainable development, and environmental health. One of the key sessions where Probha Aurora played an important role was held on December 8, 2023. In collaboration with international partners, Probha Aurora led discussions on the critical intersections of climate change, education, and sustainable development.
COP28 was not only a major milestone but also a launching pad for future collaborations. The event inspired deeper international cooperation and provided insights that will guide Probha Aurora in its mission to create a sustainable and resilient future.
